How Losing Your Job Affects Child Support Payments

How does losing your job affect your child support payments.

When you loose your job, one of the last things you think about is how to pay child support. You are more concerned about how you will eat and pay your bills. Unfortunately, losing your job or earning less income does not automatically remove your obligation to pay child support. It does not evaporate.

However, you can ask the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) to review your case. If you can show that your circumstances have changed, you may be eligible for a payment modification. Payment modification means that your child support payment can decrease. This is how employment status, income, and court-ordered amounts are related.

Did you lose your job? Or did your employment change? You may qualify for modification. Talk to one of our attorneys for a legal consultation.
