Why I Serve:
My journey into law was somewhat unexpected and guided by a mix of reflection, advice, and faith. I initially resolved to become a doctor. Studying biochemistry to that end, I struggled with organic chemistry. After consulting my counselor to reassess, I decided to transition to political science.
Yet, despite this, while I was studying in Manitoba, Canada, I had a professor who was also a practicing attorney. They profoundly inspired me, planting the seed of an idea that led me to apply to Thurgood Marshall School of Law—the only school I applied to. Being accepted there served as confirmation of sorts letting me know I was on the right path.
Along the way, I learned invaluable life skills and cultivated my deep desire to help others in situations where they can’t help themselves. I also learned to handle failure and understand people. These experiences, coupled with my faith, shaped my approach to law, helping me navigate the emotional challenges clients face. It’s a career that I truly believe was meant for me, even though it wasn’t at all my original plan.

These are core values that shape how I approach serving my clients.
Many of the clients I’ve served have expressed gratitude simply because I take the time to actively listen to them. Many attorneys prioritize billable hours. I value genuine care, recognizing that my clients are people navigating challenging situations, not mere cases to resolve and customers to perform services for.
Case in point, in divorce cases, so many of my clients grapple with emotional struggles like grief or anger over the end of their marriage. Understandably so. Addressing these emotions first helps build trust and clarity, making it easier to develop strategies to achieve their goals. Active listening and empathizing with their experiences is the key by which I create a space where they feel supported and understood. This ultimately brings the added benefit of helping us work more effectively together.
I also make it a point to make myself accessible to clients, especially for urgent matters, while maintaining healthy boundaries. I provide my personal contact information for emergencies but set clear expectations about availability after hours or on weekends. This balance ensures clients feel supported without compromising my own well-being.
Finally, I emphasize honesty—whether it’s about billing, case expectations, or outcomes. Fostering open communication and actively listening to your concerns, I’ve found, is the best way to provide professional and compassionate service that builds trust and delivers results.
